The outcomes of the project included:

  • a pilot benchmark drawing on data from six film festivals
  • individual analysis and reporting on audience data for each of the festivals
  • skills development for staff and volunteers involved with the festivals
  • tools that can be adapted and used in future monitoring activities

It involved collection of audience data between April 2007 and April 2008, from six film festivals:

  • Black Film Makers
  • Chinese Film Festival
  • East End Film Festival
  • London International Disability Film Festival
  • UK Jewish Film Festival
  • Women's Cinema from Tangiers to Tehran

The project also provided a programme of support to a wider set of organisations, in the form of one-to-one advice surgeries on audience monitoring, tools for collecting and inputting audience data.
