Culture on Demand, ways to engage a broader audience

This DCMS report summarises the findings of a six-month investigation which attempted to answer the question, what drives demand for culture among disabled people, BME groups and lower socio-economic groups?

The "Taking Part" survey (commissioned by DCMS, Arts Council England, Sport England and the MLA) identified three priority groups for cultural engagement: disabled people, Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities and lower socio-economic groups. Each of these groups, while internally diverse and often overlapping, shows lower-than-average levels of engagement in traditional or institutionalised, though not necessarily "popular", forms of culture. Each also has its own dynamics and preferences which need to be accommodated by the cultural sector.

Culture on Demand attempts to answer some of the ways in which these social groups can be better accommodated for in the cultural sector.
