Keep in touch about Audience Development

Hello and welcome to Audiences London's newsletter!

Audiences London is here to help you understand audiences and develop public engagement and reach. We work with over 400 arts and heritage organisations every year, and are now offering our tried and tested services across London, the South East, South West and East of England.

We have our Associate working in the South East region - Adrienne Pye, so please get in touch, if you haven't already, to find out how our services can support you - and in the meantime, we hope you find this e-newsletter useful, we'll be highlighting activity in your region.

We offer the UK’s most comprehensive audience data-sharing initiatives, expert research services and specialist consultancy in audience development and community engagement. We also run a professional development programme of regular seminars, symposia and networking sessions.

Last week we ran our enormously popular symposium on audiences at outdoor events and festivals, which was a great success  - more details of this below. There's also a brand new free symposium to look forward to, this time exploring audience segmentation.

If you would like to keep in touch with us, then we'll keep you on this list and you'll receive regular (but not too regular) updates.  If not, then please Unsubscribe via the link below on the left.

Understanding audiences at outdoor events

On 24 January we ran a free symposium: Understanding Audiences for Outdoor Events and Festivals, which was attended by nearly 150 professionals from across the outdoor arts sector and included speakers from ACE, ISAN, the London 2012 Festival, CREATE festival and others. The event launched our new set of guidelines: Researching Audiences at Outdoor Events and Festivals, which provides advice on what types of evidence and data to collect; which methods to use and what resources are needed; how to recruit, train and support volunteers and how to report results.

All resources from the event are available to download for free from our website, including the full guidelines, a sample audience questionnaire, videos and vox pops from the event and notes from the presentations and breakout sessions. Click here to access these.

Free symposium - Using Arts Audiences: Insight

ACE AA:I blue book

We are delighted to announce our next free symposium - Using Arts Audiences: Insight to grow your audiences, which will introduce Arts Council England’s Arts Audiences: Insight segmentation – a valuable resource to help you understand and reach current and potential arts attenders.

Arts Audiences: Insight divides the English population into 13 segments based on how the arts fits into people’s lives, and helps us distinguish between people who are highly engaged, somewhat engaged or not currently engaged with the arts.

This event is free and open to all, but places are limited to two per organisation and priority will be given to organisations in receipt of ACE funding.

Sector News

Creative people & places fund has recently been launched by ACE:

"The Creative people and places fund will focus our investment in parts of the country where people’s involvement in the arts is significantly below the national average, with the aim of increasing the likelihood of participation."

A total of £37 million will be available to establish around 15 Creative people and places projects between autumn 2012 and autumn 2015.

The Culture Diary is open again - so register here with the GLA to list your events for 2012 and find out what else is going on.
